Based in Lakewood,O
Tim
Lane Stays busy teaching drum lessons around town, mainly at VANCE MUSIC
STUDIOSin
Lakewood. Tim enjoys sharing music with kids very much. Being a teacher is a great way to
always learn more ways to diversify with percussion, on top of keeping solid with the basics
like Time Keeping, Form, Rudiments, etc.
Timothy Lane
Timothy
Lane, born in Lorain Ohio, 11/11/1971. Started to have interest in drums at the age of 6. Then
I was influenced by Todd Rundgren and Utopia, Golden Earring, Heart, and the Hello People. The
Utopia album called RA, that one put the drumming idea into focus. I knew that someday I would
play. But that someday did not come until 1985, when I was 14 years old. Harry Damas taught me
how to Read and play along with him as he accompanied the lesson with Piano. This was a great
experience for me to play along with someone that could really PLAY ! Harry Damas was a jazz player
that taught me jazz independence, and diddles galore !
R.I.P. Harry Damas, He passed October 2010.
After playing with
Damas
I got a taste of
the magic and knew that I actually could play along with someone else. The light bulb went on then
and I wanted to play music with people more and more, leading into the school band, then onto
marching band, Jazz Band, and basement / garage bands.

Besides Jamming with great Bass players
When it comes to playing I would say that a
lot of time goes into the my approach towardsrelaxing while I
play. Warming up first makes a big difference. Planning the right mood and feel can all be accomplished when one takes
the time to prepare for that moment. Keeping your posture good while enduring a long set is key.
Eating a healthy diet and having a good mental outlook does influence performance
also.

Understanding
music
comes from listening to a
lot of music, and playing a lot of
music. Each individual has a
unique per-ception of what he hears,so there-fore, everyone
interprets music alittle differen-
tly. This is part of what makes up this magical world of
music-
ians and songs
We try to play like our favorite
drummers
or we emulate them. This is a
classic way that guys learn. Many drummers can do this without learning to read, by the grace
of God, they were born with the gift of great ears and coordination. As a player that can
read, I recognize that reading music is very important to better understanding the "ABC'S" of
drumming. Sharing my knowledge,or "Breaking it Down" is all a
part of helping people learn to count and subdivide the beat. Understanding how to read music
makes it easier to explain. Beginner readers need to remind themselves to slow things down so
reading can come easier. Counting out loud also helps. If you can say it, you can play it!!
Have patienceand be persistent and you get the
results.
